What’s an eCartz?

I do not actually get asked this often.  However, it is relatively obvious that people do not get eCartz.  For example, it’s not uncommon for people to capitalize it as Ecartz rather than eCartz.

When I was first going solo, I wanted to make a business name that had inherent meaning.  Since I was planning to work primarily with the osCommerce system, I wanted something that indicated shopping.  The word I picked was “cart”.  I then added an e at the beginning and an s at the end and went looking to register ecarts.com.  Unfortunately, it was taken.  So I looked for ecart.com.  Also taken.  I still wanted to stick with the ecart theme.  I tried the misspelling, ecartz.com, and it was available!  So I registered my business as eCartz.com, Inc. and off we went.

I guess that I failed in my original intent.  People do not look at ecartz and instantly think online shopping.  However, businesses need names and this seems to be just as good as any.

This time around, I don’t have the ecartz.com domain anymore.  That’s OK.  I kind of like the name, The eCartz Biz.  I think that I’ll keep it.
